Hibiscus House Brufut Brufut 2 Brufut, Gambia, 9 January 2017-HotelsCombined, the Australian based hotel meta-search company, has started an extensive survey covering different types of accommodations within Gambia. This survey is based on gathering data from millions of guest reviews, and translating them to an official Recognition of Excellence. The HotelsCombined Recognition of Excellence is not a ranking list but a group of outstanding accommodations chosen based on a strict set of criteria. In order to be considered, properties must meet the following criteria:

  • At the time of judging, a winner is rated 8.0/10 or over with a minimum of 75customer reviews certified by HotelsCombined.
  • We couldn’t detect any major customer service problems, nor recurring or unresolved issues

Moreover, HotelsCombined is taking in great consideration the way the hotel staff answered the Hotels communication team, demonstrating their commitment in providing quick assistance. Property name boasts a high satisfaction rating among guests and travel industry experts, receiving 153 reviews for an impressive rating of 9.4 out of 10.

“We are thrilled to be working with the best hotels in Gambia and Hibiscus House Brufut is certainly among them ” said Alberto Castellucchio, market manager of HotelsCombined Gambia “What is different about the Recognition of Excellence is the way information is gathered and analyzed: it all depends on the guest and his or her experience with that particular accommodation.”

Over the past 10 years many of our guests have become regulars and in doing so some have taken on sponsorship of children, schools and even started charities which other guests now support.

Hibiscus House has been a constant source of surprise and entertainment, from amazing ‘African Buffet Nights’ where we have watched fire and glass eaters to guests who have just refused to go because they wanted to enjoy their time at Hibiscus House and in The Gambia.

For many who return they know what Hibiscus House is all about, but for those who have never been but maybe thinking about visiting read on:

Are we a hotel? – well yes or maybe you could say ‘just a baby hotel’

Are we a bed and breakfast? – yes, although along with breakfast we also have an amazing chef who offers: lunches, suppers, dinners, Chef’s Specials and Traditional African Food

Are we a guest house? - Well yes, we have guests, and each individual room offers our guests a private space inside and out so they can be as private or as social as they please, so maybe just a little more than a guest house

Are we ‘Boutique’? – this word conjures up all sorts in the imagination but I can most assuredly say that Hibiscus House is ‘Unique’

Are we a ‘Lodge’? – yes, but in African I imagine big game and that we cannot do, however The Gambia is one of the best places in the world for bird watching, the gardens at Hibiscus House are now 15 years old, they were started upon our arrival and now attract a fantastic amount of bird life, so bright and beautiful and easy to spot.

So, to sum up
-    our food is always freshly cooked to order
-    our staff will help you to do whatever you would like to do
-    you enjoying your holiday give us all the greatest happiness
-    because Hibiscus House is ‘Your home in The Gambia’!

"Beautiful, quite oasis." - Reviewed by Bunnji on Trip Advisor

Never really felt the need to post a review on here but this hotel deserves a mention. Initially we were hesitant on visiting the Gambia but now cannot wait to return, more so to Hibiscus house. It is a little gem, if you are looking for a tropical haven with a lush garden that abounds with tropical birds, colourful plants, trees, a great pool surrounded with ample sunbeds, or seats and shaded areas then this is the hotel for you. A small hotel with all ground floor rooms, that are nestled in and around the gardens and pool, they are well equipped with fridges, kettles, ceiling fan, large comfy beds and are fully protected with mosquito nets. Linen is changed daily; the laundry service is good and fresh milk and such is readily available. Set in a small village it is an excellent spot for meeting the locals who are a joy, it’s only a 15min stroll to a massive expanse of beach, or a 5min taxi drive to all the nightlife, with ample bars and restaurants. The food menu is extensive and the chef really good, albeit over generous with the portions. The bar area although small is great and maybe we were lucky but we met some wonderful people while we there, all were return visitors and a mind of information with some great advice and stories, and i suspect that is how it is most of the time. The manager Oliver has a great sense of humour and he along with his attentive staff are extremely accommodating, nothing is too much trouble, they are friendly, full of advice, and will guarantee you an experience that will not only stay with you, but probably leave one yearning for more. We usually do not return to previous hotels as it’s a big world, but this hotel will be an exception and are already looking at returning, thanks for a wonderful time.
